A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and a friend to all who knew her, a avid cook and gardener, monthly she visited the rest home and sang to the patients; a member of Wesleyanna United Methodist Church serving on several officers and serving as the church historian, she was a supervisor at Burlington industries; daughter of the late John C. Cabe and Florence Wilde Buchanan; preceded in death by her husband, Rufus Taylor Cabe who died in 1979; a brother, Robert Gay Buchanan.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and L.H. Gunter of Sylva and Carolyn and Ernie Hall of Clyde; three sisters, Ethel Lee Morgan and Jonnie E. Hall, both of Canton, and Martha Marie Crisp of Sylva; three grandchildren, Sherri LeCompte, Beth Rathbone and Courtney Hall; four great-grandchildren, Nicholas LeCompte, Abbye LeCompte, Megan Rathbone, Elise Rathbone.
The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Wesleyanna Methodist Church, with the Revs. Dan Stiles and Tommy James officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Wesleyanna United Methodist Church.
