Donald G. (Donny) Schelk, 66, of Plymouth died unexpectedly on Friday, June 17, 2016 in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, Canada while traveling with his wife Dede to fulfill a lifetime dream to visit Alaska.

Donny was born on August 12, 1949 in Plymouth, Wisconsin, the youngest son of the late Walter F. and Helene (Koeser) Schelk. He attended schools in Plymouth, graduating from Plymouth High School in 1967. Donny, a SP5 served in the U.S. Army and trained as a helicopter mechanic in the L.O.H. Squad. He saw active duty in Vietnam from 1969-1970 and upon his return to the states was stationed in Colorado Springs, CO.

On November 14, 1970 Donny was united in marriage to Delores (Dede) Berg. He was employed with Curt G. Joa Inc. for 36 years, officially retiring on June 2, 2016 as supervising inspector. He was proud to be a loyal member of the Curt G. Joa Inc. family company.Donny and Dede hosted seven foreign exchange students over the years and kept in touch with them, even traveling to Brazil and Spain to visit them. Donny enjoyed spending time with his family and was also especially close with his granddaughter, exchange grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He enjoyed camping, especially in Door County, and raced open winged modified cars for many years for the Eastern Wisconsin Stock Car Assn.Donny was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Plymouth, the Ladwig-Zinkgraf Legion Post 243 of Plymouth, and was a Class A volunteer for the Wisconsin Special Olympics.

Donny is survived by his wife of 45 years, Dede; his son, Matthew (Julie) Schelk of Fond du Lac; his daughter, Sherri (Nate) Gerharz of Plymouth; his granddaughter, Abigail "Abby" Schelk; a special exchange son, Itamar (Carol) Romanini of Sheboygan; special exchange grandchildren, Alex, Bia, and Bella Romanini; his brothers, Kenneth (Faye) Schelk of Crivitz, Roger (Diane) Schelk of Casa Grande, Arizona, and Walter (Verna) Schelk Jr. of Wausaukee; his sisters, Beatrice (special friend Bob Joch) Grunewald and Carol Jean (Dennis) Roethel of Howards Grove; "Grandpa Kermit" (Julie) Schulz of Manitowoc County; his brother-in- law, Bruce (Deb) Berg of Fond du Lac; his sisters-in- law, Dawn (Ken) Liebergen of Sheboygan Falls and Patricia Goetsch of Sheboygan; his goddaughter, Sue Grunewald of Howards Grove and godson, Mark Waterman of Sheboygan; and his faithful four-legged companions, Tinkerbell and Daisy. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, many relatives, friends, co-workers, and neighbors.

Donny was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Roy Schelk; two infant brothers; an infant sister; four nephews; brothers-in- law, Butch, Donald, and James Berg, Carl Grunewald Jr. and James Waterman Jr.; sisters-in- law, Julie (Voss) Schelk, Jane Payne, and Waunita Hausler; and his father and mother-in- law, Alton and Louise Berg.

Burial will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Plymouth with military rites
