Lamar, age 50 of Cincinnati, passed away at his residence Tuesday, August 28, 2007.


Lamar was an employee of the Cincinnati Enquirer in the mechanical department, and participated in various sports but excelled in track and field at the local, state, national, and world levels, setting and holding numerous records; in high school as a junior in 1974, Lamar won the 100 yards and 220 yard dash in the Ohio State meet.


He was named outstanding runner at the Ohio State meet that year and his 100-yard dash record was not broken.


After graduating from Trotwood Madison High School in 1975, Lamar attended the University of Tennessee on a track scholarship; in 1976 and 1980 he qualified and participated in the Olympic Trials in the 200-meter run; Lamar's 1976 4x200 meter relay team held the world record; Lamar lettered for the Tennessee Vols and gained All American honors in 76, 77 and 80.


Lamar was inducted into the Dayton, Ohio Track and Field Hall of Fame, and coached track as an assistant at the University of Tennessee and the University of Cincinnati.


Lamar was an avid Cleveland Browns fan and collected Marvel Comics, he loved to read and draw.


Lamar was preceded in death by his father James L. and brother James A.


He is survived by his mother, son Lamar Jr., daughter, sisters, former wife, nephews, niece, grandchildren (4), and a host of relatives and friends.


Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2007, at Thompson Hall and Jordan Funeral Home in Cincinnati.


The family will receive friends from 11 AM - 12 noon and funeral services will be following these services.
