Rebecca Isadora Kennedy was first married to Jacob Furrow (son of William & Elizabeth Furrow) in Logan County, Ohio around 1856. Their daughter, Mary Jane Furrow, was born in 1857. Jacob Furrow died in September of 1858. Rebecca was pregnant with their second daughter, Sarah Louise Furrow, born November 1, 1858, in Humboldt, Richardson Co., Nebraska. Rebecca and John Pierce were married in Ohio around 1860 and traveled west, landing first in Brownville, Nebraska. Evidently, after a short stay, they traveled on over to Franklin Precinct and joined with other Seventh Day Baptist people. Accompanying them would have been Mary Jane Furrow (5), Sarah Louise Furrow (2) and their first daughter, Louisa Pierce.
