Mr. Gray entered this world on Aug. 15, 1920, and departed Nov. 11, 2006.
Born on the Ponca Reservation in Oklahoma, Mr. Gray was the second son of Ralph W. and Ruth Mitchell Gray. He served his country as a Naval Lieutenant during the Second World War and in the 1960s, helped change the world as one of the men and women at NASA in Huntsville who worked to put the first man on the moon. He continued his work with the space program until his retirement in 1987.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Powers Gray; one daughter, Anathalee Ann Sandlin of Decatur; and two sons, Byron Lloyd Gray of Somerville and Randall Allen Gray of New Market.
He leaves behind three granddaughters, Leigh Sandlin Cauthen, Kristen Sandlin Spain and Heidi Sandlin Wilson; and six great-grandchildren, Sandlin Cauthen, Ella Cauthen, Reid Cauthen, Gray Cauthen, Avonlea Spain and Noah Lloyd Spain.
He was a good man who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Graveside service will be Monday, Nov. 13, 2006, at 3 p.m. at Decatur City Cemetery with Roselawn Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be this evening Nov 12, from 5 to 7 at the funeral home.
