Leon was born in Scott Twp., Columbia Co., PA, the son of Harry Edwin Jones and Ida Gertrude Sterling. He married Ruth Kathryn (Champion) Sample in March 1930 [marriage license recorded in Warren, PA]. He died in the Susque-View Home in Lock Haven.

Leon and Ruth were the parents of five children:
1. Joann D. (Jones) Allison
2. Harry Forrest Jones
3. Marilyn L. (Jones) Bitner
4. Ronald L. Jones
5. "Tooty"/"Romaine" Enid Romaine (Jones) Reynolds Fetterhoff

Leon also raised the four children that Ruth brought into the marriage: Weston, Vivian, Vernon and Volorea.
