John Robinson, [Robertson] who lived ten miles south of Hiawatha, died Thursday of pneumonia. He was buried at Troy Friday. Funeral services were held at Horton.

John Robertson, of Willis, died Thursday last, of pneumonia, and was buried at Troy Friday. He leaves a family.

John Robertson was recorded as age 37 in the 1880 Mission, Brown, Kansas census with his wife, "Amie," age 37. Lorin Law, 16, and Luella Law, 11 were listed as his step-children. Anna Robertson, age 6, and Ida Robertson, 4, were listed as his children. Elizabeth [Watkins,] 72, was his mother-in-law.

The 1885 state census (same location) records the Civil War service of John H. Robertson, 42. Amy M. Robertson is listed as age 45 in this census. Annie Robertson was age 11, and Ida, age 9. L. O. Law, age 20, and Lulu M. Law, age 16, were also recorded.

John H. Robertson served in Co. H, 16th Kentucky Infantry and also Co. A, 10th Kentucky Cavalry for the Union. A pension was granted for his minor child on August 1, 1890, with Ida A. Robertson listed as the guardian. There is also a reference to a widow's pension on the same record.

Two Civil War soldiers named John W. Robertson were recorded in Kansas Enrollment of Civil War Soldiers records in Doniphan County, Kansas. (The forms are printed with the year 1889.) One of them served in Co. G, 4th Iowa Cavalry. The other John W. Robertson served in Co. H, 5th Kansas Cavalry, both of Severance, Kansas. A John Robertson was listed in the 1857 Doniphan County, Kansas Territory census. No further information for these Civil War soldiers has been found.
