Roxanna William McCracken was the third child of Calvin and Amanda English McCracken. She was born 23 May 1835 in Lowndes Co., Mississippi and died 19 Feb 1879 in Lawrence Co., Tennessee.
Roxanna's birth and death dates were extracted from information engraved on her tombstone, which is the only original stone left standing and intact in the McCracken-Tidwell Cemetery.
She was the paternal granddaughter of John and Elizabeth English McCracken and the maternal granddaughter of James and Nancy McCracken English.
Roxanna came to Lawrence Co., Tennessee with her grandfather, John McCracken, about 1847. Her father had been dead roughly two years at the time and her mother had died in 1840 when Roxanna was five years old. Both parents died and were buried in Mississippi.
On 30 May 1850, Roxanna married Darling Manuel Tidwell in Lawrence Co., Tennessee. She had just turned 15 years of age and, during the course of her lifetime, gave birth to eighteen children, including a set or two of twins. Two of her eighteen children died in infancy.
Roxanna William McCracken Tidwell was about 44 years of age at the time of her death and died within a year of the birth of her last child, Lula. Her husband, Darling Manuel Tidwell, is buried in the Mount Nebo Cemetery in Lawrence Co., Tennessee.
