Ann Bridget Clarke was born at 8am the 23rd of April 1879 at home at 17 Hollingdean Road, Brighton Sussex England. Her father John Fredrick Clarke was employed as a French Polisher Journeyman. Her mother was Ann Batchelor Clarke.

Ann married John Andrew Dowie Brown March 30 1906 at home at 172 Gorgie Road, Edinburgh, Scotland. John was employed as a Master Plasterer and Cement Worker.

When Ann Bridget Clarke was living in Edinburgh, Midlothian in 1910, the fight for women’s suffrage had turned militant.

Ann Bridget Clarke would have been impacted economically by the People’s Budget introduced in 1909/1910 by the Liberal Government in Great Britain.

On August 27 1910 Ann and John had their first child, a son named Samuel Brown, named for his Grandfather.

On November 9 1922 Ann and John had their second son, John Andrew Brown Jr. He was named after his father.

31 August 1924 husband John traveled to Canada for work at age 42. He was a Master Plasterer. He traveled on a ship named the Marloch. His Port of Arrival was Saint John, New Brunswick. He was staying with friend Mr. Ronald Fontain at 17 Buckhall Avenue, Montreal. John had 40 British Pounds on him. Annie stayed at home with children, Sam and John Jr., in Scotland at 172 Georgie Road, Edinburgh.

On May 3rd 1926 The Brown family arrived in New York. Father John age 45, 5 ft 8 ½ inches tall, fresh complexion, Brown hair, Grey eyes and was a Plasterer by trade. John’s next of kin was his sister Miss Mary Brown of 14 Clerk Street, Edinburgh. John had immigrated on August 31 1924 and had already set up a home located at 3524 65th Street, Woodside, Long Island, New York. John had $2000 on him when they arrived and had visited the U.S. from December 1923 to 1925. Annie was 5 feet 7 inches with fresh complexion, Brown hair and Blue eyes. They immigrated with cousin Jane Wright Brown Goudie age 33 and her son Lawrence “Lawrie” age 12. Jane Goudie had $220 when she arrived here and was described as 5 feet 2 inches, fresh complexion, Brown hair and Grey eyes. Lawrie was described as 4 feet 2 inches, fair complexion, Brown hair, Blue eyes, and slightly lame in the right foot. The Goudie’s were coming to join her husband Mr. James Goudie who was staying with the Lauder family in Amityville, Long Island, New York.

Annie lived with her son Samuel Brown and his wife Valerie Hauser Brown of Amityville Long Island New York in her final days and died in 1952.
