Don was born on September 11, 1934 in School Hill, son of the late Frank and Stephania (Horne) Bushman. He graduated from Valders High School with the class of 1952. Don served in the U.S. Army from 1953 until 1973, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. On June 16, 1956 he married the former Shirley Johnston in Germany. He then graduated from Lakeland College with his Bachelor's Degree. Don was employed as a Real Estate agent in the area for many years. He was also a substitute teacher at Valders High School for a few years. Don enjoyed bowling, golfing and traveling. He was also an avid card player.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years: Shirley Bushman, Elm Grove; three sons and daughters-in-law: Dennis and Lori Bushman, New Berlin, Doug and Ann Bushman, Wrightstown, Duane and Dawn Bushman, Brookfield; one daughter: Dawn Brown, Orange Park, FL; eight grandchildren: Christina, Doug Jr. (Lisa), Nicole, Derek, Ashley, Alex, Chelsea and Luke; three great grandchildren: Elisha, Amiah and Katelyn; three sisters: Betty Benoit, Jean Wicks, Dorothy (Harry) Tolson; two sisters-in-law: Bernie (Jim) Berge and Elaine Bushman. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was also preceded in death by one infant son: Joseph; one granddaughter: Samantha; three brothers and two sisters-in-law: Francis and Marge Bushman, Ted and Lil Bushman, Bob Bushman; one sister: Sr. Rose; two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Warren and Donna Johnston, Art and Johnnie Steinhilb.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at St. Gregory Catholic Church, St. Nazianz. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Patrick Nelson, S.D.S. and military rites will be accorded by the Wagner, Ebeble, Sukowaty American Legion Post #477. Cremation will follow the mass at All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc. Private burial of the cremated remains will be at a later date at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove.
