Theodore Meece, beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away Wednesday, September 20, 2006, at the age of 105. He was born September 3, 1901 to the late Henry Martin and Rachel Tomlinson Meece at Dykes, Ky. He was united in marriage in 1926 to the late Mary Edwards Meece. From this union was born four children, Lucille (and James Edward) Terry, Vernon Meece, Doris Arnold, and Wayne (and Nancy) Meece. He was blessed with five special grandchildren, Patricia Terry Vansant, James Michael Terry, George Martin Arnold, Mark Meece, and Greg Meece; and four very special great grandchildren, Meredith Meece, Matthew Meece, Nathan Meece, and Asia Elizabeth Arnold. Theodore was a loving father, and will be missed by all. His family was his main focus in life. Other than his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Edwin, Albert and Orville Meece; and one sister, Iris Meece. Mr. Meece graduated from Mt. Victory High School and completed college extension courses at Eastern State Teachers College, now Eastern Kentucky University. He was a much loved and respected teacher in the Pulaski County School System for 31 years. He sometimes walked eight miles in inclement weather to school because he loved to teach children. He taught in one-room and two-room schools in the eastern part of Pulaski County. Mr. Meece was a successful farmer and he had a very strong work ethic at age 100. Theodore Meece was presented the Oldest Working Kentuckian Award by Gov. Paul Patton. He was an organic gardener and the bean seed he used is 102 years old. He was a student of the Bible and a lay minister and a Sunday School teacher for many years. He always gave thanks to the Lord above for 105 years on this earth, and for his ability to provide educational and enrichment services to his community and country. Funeral services will be Saturday, September 23, at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home, with Bro. Leonard Sears and Dr. Robert Drake officiating. Burial will follow in the Wesley’s Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 p.m. today, Friday. Special thanks to his friend and physician, Dr. Robert Drake, and staff, and to Lifeline nurse Amber Tarter, for their dedication and loyalty. Family members, grandchildren, and great grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
