Sondra Sue (Hughes) Lenati, 66, retired Parsons special education teacher, died unexpectedly at her home in Parsons Saturday morning, November 11, 2006. She was born June 3, 1940, at Marthasville, Missouri, to John Henry and Edith Mae (Tate) Hughes. The family moved to Parsons from Missouri when she was in her early teenage years.
She graduated from Parsons High School in 1958 and earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from Pittsburg State University. She began her teaching career at the age of 22 in Olathe. Later, she taught second grade at the Guthridge School in Parsons. After completing her master's degree she became the special education teacher at the Parsons Middle School, where she remained for 38 years until her retirement.
She became a member of the Friendship Southern Baptist Church when her family moved to Parsons. For many years she taught the married adult Sunday School Class and was active in Women On Mission (church circle) , the kitchen committee and the chancel choir. She was a regular volunteer for her church when it was their turn to host the Parsons High School Lunch Bunch. She taught crafts at Vacation Bible School and was church secretary many years. She was an active crafter, enjoying sewing, doll making, cross stitch and decopauge, She was a member of the Round Table Study Club.
On July 27, 1973 she married Sione (Sam) Ti'paleti Lenati at the Friendship Southern Baptist Church.
SURVIVORS - Husband - Sione (Sam) Lenati of the home
Three sons - Alvin Lenati Pittsburg Frank Lenati Parsons John Lenati Lawrence
Five grandchildren - Johnathan, Alicia, Sydney, Josephine and Jamisan.

One brother - Larry Hughes Topeka
Two sisters - Patty Knarr Houston, TX
Debra Hughes Gladstone, MO
Her father preceded her in death.
SERVICES - will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, at the Friendship Southern Baptist Church, with Rev. Dennis Wildman officiating.
Burial, following cremation, will be in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Parsons. The family will receive friends at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Parsons from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday. Memorials are suggested to either the Friendship Southern Baptist Church, the American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society.
