Belle was born on the family farm Slenga in Numedal, Norway. Her mother was Anna Andersdotter, and her father was Engebret Olson. She and her family left Norway for America in mid May 1861 on the ship Danzig. They were on the ship eleven weeks. They arrived in quebec and were shipped from there on freighter steamers up the lakes where they were placed on stock trains to Luther Valley in Rock County, Wisconsin where they had relatives. Her father obtained work there where he earned twenty five cents a day which he thought was good as he had earned twelve cents a day in Norway. Belle started working out for other people and she did this for eight years until she met Nels Hall who wanted her to share her life with him. They were married April 6, 1879. In 1883 Belle and her husband immigrated with her parents and sister and brothers to Nebraska in a prairie schooner. They left Bascobel, WI October first, 1883 and arrived in Round Valley, Custer County, Nebraska November 10, 1883. They lived there and farmed until 1918 when they moved to Silverton, OR. Belle was very active in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Silverton, Oregon. Belle has written a journal of her voyage to America and one of her life experiences in Nebraska. She passed away January 20, 1941 after a long bout with Diabetes in which she suffered the loss of her leg below the knee. Belle and husband Nels are at rest in Valley View Cemetery.
