Joan Hartsfield Hill, age 77, passed away on Monday, July 4, 2016 in Sebring, Florida. She was a lifelong resident of Highlands County born August 23, 1938 in Sebring to the late Silas and Edith (Waldron) Hartsfield. Joan's early years were spent living in Lake Placid. She graduated from Lake Placid High School. Joan worked alongside her husband, Kelton Hill, in their Insurance business for 40 years. Prior to that, she had a career working for United Telephone Company in Highlands County. She loved her family and was a wonderful mother and loved her husband dearly. When her grandchildren were young, they called her "JoJo" and that nickname stuck, and from then on Joan was affectionately called "JoJo" by many of her family members.
Joan was a great cook and a wonderful hostess. She loved to cook and have family gatherings at her house. She was known for her delicious Thanksgiving dressing and her coconut cake, both family favorites.
Survivors include her children, Kellie Hill Duke (Max), Travis K. Hill, Jr. (Susan) all of Avon Park, FL; brothers, Glenn Hartsfield (Ann)-Avon Park, FL, Irving Hartsfield (Lillian)-Lake Placid, FL; grandchildren, Kayley Duke Cobb (Mason), Garrett Duke, Buddy Duke (Alyssa), T.K. Hill, III (Brooke), Carlee Hill Brady (Hank); great-grandchildren, Krew Cobb, Kye Cobb, Kanon Cobb, Hagen Hill, Adalyn Joan Hill. Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Travis Kelton Hill, Sr. and her half-sister, Virginia Gailey.
There will be a funeral service on Thursday, July 7, 2016, 11:00 am, at Avon Park Lakes Baptist Church in Avon Park, FL with Pastor George Hall officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 am. Burial will take place immediately following the service at Bougainvillea Cemetery.
