Clifford Abrams Jr.

A father and his son, Clifford H. Abrams Sr. and Clifford H. Abrams Jr., died Wednesday within 12 hours of each other. The elder Mr. Abrams died in Canby, unaware of his son’s death in San Jose. Both had been executives with Standard Oil Co. of California.

The senior Mr. Abrams, who was 91, was a retired branch manager for Standard Oil and lived for many years in Portland’s Sellwood district. He died in Canby in a convalescent home.

He was born in Rockville center, Long Island, N.Y., June 16, 1882.

His first assignment for Standard Oil in the West was in Washtucna, Wash.

Mr. Abrams Jr., who was Standard Oil division manager for San Jose, Calif., died of cancer in a San Jose hospital at age 57.

During his career with Standard Oil, Mr. Abrams Jr. had held a number of positions in Western states, including division manager in Medford and wholesale sales manager in Portland.

He was named San Jose divisional manager three years ago and made his home in Saratoga, Calif.

Funeral for Mr. Abrams Sr. will be at 3 p.m. Monday in the Wilhelm Funeral Home, 6637 SE Milwaukie Ave.

A memorial service for Mr. Abrams Jr. will be in the Chapel of the Hills in San Jose Saturday, with private entombment to be in Portland in Riverview Abbey.

Mr. Abrams Sr. is survived by three daughters, Evelyn Beltz and Eileen Beeson, both of Canby, and Grace Scott, Green Valley, Ariz.; a son, Lloyd of Corte Madera, Calif.; a brother, Frank W. of Southold N.Y.; 12 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Abrams Jr., in addition to his three sisters and brother, is survived by his wife, Willa; two daughters, Judy Bay and Karen Mayberry, both of Portland, and three grandchildren.

The family has suggested remembrances be contributions to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children or the Oregon Cancer Society.
