Last Rites Held For Mrs. Alcorn
Requiem mass for Alice Ann Evert Alcorn, 75, of San Diego, Calif., former Monticello resident, was held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in San Diego on Nov. 10. Rosary was recited at Bonhan Brothers Mortuary on Nov. 9. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery.
She was born in Iowa 05 Apr 1880 ad died Monday Nov. 7, at Mercy Hospital in San Diego, following a heart attack. She was the daughter of Henry Evert and Elizabeth Ann Bray Evert and lived in Monticello from 1912 to the early 1940s.
Mrs. Alcorn visited her daughter (Mrs. V. Charles Moore of San Diego) in 1935 and 1936 and returned in the early 1940s to make her permanent home with Mr. and Mrs. Moore.
A few years ago she converted to the Catholic faith.
In 1947 she suffered a coronary thrombosis and in later years had both slight and severe heart attacks. She also fell and broke her hip and pelvic bone.
Survivors:
3 daughters: Mrs. V.C. (Floy) Moore of San Diego, Mrs. F.W. (Elsie) Brindel of Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. A.D. (Gladys) Carlson of Oskaloosa
1 son: James Lee Alcorn of Edgewood
2 sisters: Nellie E. Clute of Edgewood and Blanch I. Evert of Manchester
3 brothers: Fred Evert of Lamont, Harley Evert of Strawberry Point, and Harry Evert of Dundee.
7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Corbett Leroy; a daughter, Mrs. W.H. (Vera) Behrends, and her husband.
