Dr. Paul H. Allen, DVM Age 83 of Seaford, DE died Saturday, April 6, 2002 at Bayhealth at Milford Memorial.
He was born in Cherokee, IA the son of the late Dr. Paul E. & Mildred Quinn Allen. He was a disabled Navy veteran of WWII and was stationed in the South Pacific as a Pharmacy Tech. While serving in the military he was assigned to the Marines as Medic in the 1st Division Marines in Samoa & Saipan. After WWII, he attended Reed College in Portland, OR, where he met his wife, Ann. After receiving his Bachelors Degree he went on to attend Washington State University and received his Doctorate degree in Veterinary Medicine (DVM). During his post graduate studies he taught and continued his studies at Oregon State and UC Davis Universities. Dr. Allen had a successful veterinary practice for over 30 years in CA and at one time worked for the San Diego Zoo. In 1976, he and his family moved to DE. He worked as a Poultry Pathologist for the University of Delaware retiring in 1980. After his retirement, he worked part-time for Delaware National Bank in Georgetown as a courier. He enjoyed reading and gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Ivey Allen; 4 children, P. Scott Allen of Millville, DE, Don S. Allen and his wife Carol Stone-Allen of Los Angeles, CA, Meg A. Lewis and husband Jeffrey D. Lewis of Wyoming, DE and Kay West and husband Kenneth West of Seaford, DE; 4 grandchildren, Scott T. Allen, Graham T. West, Britney A. Lewis and Heather C. Lewis; 1 sister, Kathryn Payne and husband James of Charlottesville, VA; and 1 brother, Donald M. Allen of San Francisco, CA.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 pm Thursday, April 11 at SHORT FUNERAL SERVICES, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown. Friends may call 2 hours prior. Burial will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Stockley.
