Ernest was a successful farmer and stockman, of German ancestry. He served for many years on the Board of Elders of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Leavenworth, and was also vice-president of the Leavenworth Co-Op Locker Plant. He and his wife Marie moved from their farm & lived in town during the last five years of his life.
Ernest, age 66, and his wife Marie were hosting their son Paul along with his wife & four young children overnight when Ernest suffered what was to be a fatal illness and was rushed to St. John's Hospital, where he died a few hours later, at 1 a.m.
Ernest was a son of William and Helena (Oberdiek) Angelbeck. At Leavenworth on Dec. 12, 1917, he was married to Miss Marie Goehner. He was survived by his wife, Mrs. Marie Angelbeck of the home; two daughters, Betty and Rita; two sons, Paul, Kansas City, Mo., and Andrew of the home; one brother, William Angelbeck, Farley, MO; and two sisters, Miss Sophia Angelbeck and Mrs. Mary Stratemeyer, Farley, MO; and eight grandchildren. A funeral service was observed at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, with burial following in the family lot in Mt. Muncie Cemetery. Ernest's obituary appeared in the Leavenworth Times on Sunday 28 July 1957.
