Thomas Lindner Harris, Jr., 74, passed away peacefully from complications related to Alzheimer's disease at his home surrounded by his loved ones on January 28, 2016. He was born on June 23, 1941 to Ethel & Thomas Linder Harris, in Brentwood, CA.

A happy childhood, with good friends culminated in a graduation from Harvard School in LA. After one fun filled year at Occidental College, he finished up his bachelor's degree at UCLA in 1964. He then attended Medical School at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., and graduated Alpha Omega Alpha. Tom then returned back to UCLA for his Orthopedic Surgeon residency which began in 1969. In the middle of which he married an operating room nurse, Susan Hinely, who he remained married to and in love with until his last breath (44 years). In 1973 he headed back to the east coast for 2 years of service in the U.S. Army based in Fort Dix, New Jersey, where he was a Major.

Upon completion of his service he returned to the west coast to start practicing medicine in Los Angeles. It was at this time that he began working with the USC athletic department with his lifelong Fort Dix friend Dr. Dick Diehl. Tom arrived in Ventura in 1976 after he accepted a position as Director of Orthopedic Surgery at the Ventura County Medical Center, where he met a lifelong friend, Dr. Rex Booher. In 1987 Tom joined the medical practice of Congress Medical Associates and worked out of Huntington Hospital in Pasadena, CA until his retirement in 2009.

Dr. Harris was an accomplished and skilled surgeon. He gracefully replaced countless hip & knee joints and repaired multiple broken bones. Tom was very popular with his patients, other doctors, nurses and staff.

While his career was impressive, Tom's greatest accomplishment was his family. He was a great family man, husband, father, coach and friend.

Tom loved the water. A highlight of his youth was his time as a L.A. county lifeguard when modern surfing was just beginning to flourish. He spent many days in the water with the best man in his wedding, Ferrell Burton. He continued to attend and enjoy his annual lifeguard reunions until recent years. Later in life he enjoyed body surfing while his two sons surfed.

Tom enjoyed the horse races, and the people at the horse races. He bought a fraction of a racehorse with a group of friends multiple times. He always said he "owned the nose, because that's what crosses the finish line."

Tom was preceded in death by his parents Ethel & Thomas Harris. He is survived by his wife; his sons & daughters-in-law; and his grandchildren.

We would like to give a sincere thank you to all of his caregivers in particular Lilly & Addie De Los Santos & Buena Vista Hospice. We would also like to thank Bob Hinely, Sue's brother, who always came down from Oregon when things got tough.

His stories, direct questions, quick wit, generosity, charm, blue eyes and good looks will all be missed. As will his kind-heart, thoughtfulness and humble manner.

Funeral services will be held for Dr. Harris on Saturday February 6, 2016, 2:00 P.M., at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura. Condolences may be sent to TedMayrFuneralHome.com.
