He attended Bradley University and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1953. Dale entered the Army and then made his home in the Chicago area for the next 25 years.
He worked at Abbott Laboratories for almost 20 years writing descriptions of new medicines. Dale wrote a book introducing Erythromycin and represented Abbott Laboratories in Washington, D.C.
He married Marianne "Abba" Ringe Lucas in Peoria in 1982. He was a member of Mensa and was known as "Doctor Dale" to many of his family and friends because of his extensive knowledge in the pharmaceutical field.
His major interests included science and theatre. He was an accomplished and locally well-known actor/singer. Dale was in many plays within the Peoria and Chicago areas.
He nurtured young children, animals and plants in his work as a horticulturist at Glen Oak Park. Many of his years were dedicated as a tutor at Commonplace.
He is survived by his wife; four children, Richard Campbell (Marino), Chris Campbell, Kathy Campbell (Bob) and Ted (Kristina) Campbell; grandchildren, Brittiney, Shelby and Braydon Campbell; daughter, Di-Anne Zellmer and granddaughter, Lexi (Jeff) Stewart; brother, Dean Campbell; and sister, Sue Korth.
