Calver Benjamin ("Cal") Ayres was the son of Jefferson B. Ayres and Jennie M. Evans.

He married Lillian Frances Woodard, daughter of John F. Woodward and Adda A. Neff, on August 27, 1907, Alameda County, California; they were married until the 1930s. The couple had four children, all daughters, namely:

May Evelyn (Ayres) Frary (1909-2000);
Ruth Eleanor (Ayres) Barbour (1912-2013);
Claudine Elizabeth (Ayres) Sanford (1914-1997); and
Florence V. ("Bonnie") (Ayres) Musselman (1916-1965).

He married Nellie Marie (Archer) Kerber, daughter of Arthur Sallee Archer and Orbie J. Gregg, ca 1940; they were married until Cal's death. The couple had no children together.
