Waterloo Daily Courier (Waterloo, Iowa) December 12, 1949 - Mrs. E. L. Shaffer Rites Wednesday at Cedar Falls
Final rites for Mrs. Ernest L. Shaffer, 68, former local resident who died at Vinton Saturday, will be at the Dahl funeral home here at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The service will be conducted by Rev. Stanley L. Hunt, pastor of the Vinton Christian Church. Burial will be in Washington Chapel cemetery five miles north of Cedar Falls. There will be a service Tuesday afternoon at the Miler funeral home at Vinton.
Mrs. Shaffer was the wife of the pastor of the Prairie Creek Church of Christ, a rural church near Vinton. Her death followed an illness of several years.
She was born Cora Hursh at Waverly, Mar. 23, 1881, the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. A. E. Hursh. She was married to Ernest L. Shaffer at Cedar Falls Nov. 16, 1898. She was a member of the Pine Creek church. The children include Audrey Shaffer of Fontana, Cal.; Lyle Shaffer, Moline, Ill.; Leota Shaffer, Homestead, N.Y. The sisters are: Mrs. Steve Workman and Mrs. Florence Muir, both of Cedar Falls; Mrs. Eva Jones, of Chicago, and Mrs. Ruth Rock of Rock Island, Ill. The brothers include Ward Hursh of Cedar Falls, John Hursh of La Porte City and Paul Hursh of Webser, Wis. The body is at the Dahl funeral home here.
