Dr. I. Benson Allen Age 93 of Seaford, DE died on Monday, February 19, 2001 at his residence.
Born in Marion Station, MD the son of the late Ira Alvin Benson and Bathana Lowe Allen. He was an optometrist in Seaford for 40 years retiring in 1972. He was a graduate of Washington College and in 1934, graduated from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Allen was a director of the First National Bank and then Bank of Delaware in Seaford for 25 years. He was a 10 year member and past president of the Seaford Board of Education. Dr. Allen was a 50 year member of Hiram Lodge #21 AF&AM and the Delaware Consistory. He was a past president and member of Seaford Kiwanis Club, the Seaford Golf & Country Club, and St. John's United Methodist Church. Dr. Allen was also preceded in death by a sister, Hazel L. Riggin.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma Langford Allen; a daughter, Phyllis L. Wilson, Seaford, DE; 1 granddaughter, Dawn Enoch, Placitas, NM; 1 grandson, Christopher A. Wilson, Seaford, DE; and 1 great grandson, Maxwell Bush; 1 stepson, Michael H. Vincent, Seaford, DE; step granddaughter, Michelle Middleton, Salisbury, MD; and a nephew, Edwin Cranston Riggin, Sarasota, FL.
Graveside service is 11 am on Thursday, February 22, 2001 at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Stein Hwy, Seaford, DE. No viewing.
