Esther M. (Greenfield) Berger Tierney
==
Esther was born Dec. 1, 1915, to Anthony and Caroline Greenfield, in Regan, N.D. Her family moved to Sandpoint, Idaho, in 1921. Esther was educated in the Sandpoint school system.

In 1934, Esther met and married Anton W. "Tony" Berger of Bonners Ferry, Idaho. During their 20 years of marriage, Esther and Tony were involved in many ways with the youth, which included their son Dick and daughter Jackie. Their son Doug came along later.

They were Cub Scout leaders for many years and had a hillbilly band, which played homemade instruments made by Tony Berger. Esther and Tony traveled all over with the band and won many first-place awards in talent shows, including Starlit Stairway in Spokane. They also traveled with the band to Cranbrook, British Columbia, Canada, and played at the Ice Follies out on the middle of the ice.

In 1954, Esther and Tony were divorced and she moved to Lewiston.

She was employed for years at Dick's Grocery and then the Mighty Mart, owned by Richard A. "Dick" Tierney. Esther and Dick were married on Dec. 2, 1966.

After she retired, Dick and Esther purchased a home and property north of Bonners Ferry, near the Canadian border. Esther moved there and Dick kept working until his retirement.

Esther loved to fish, garden and maintain the property, making it look just like a park. Esther was a great host each year when she would put on potlucks, with horseshoe contests and other games. Guests and relatives came from great distances just to attend the gatherings.

At one point she was sure she saw "Bigfoot," the creature of legend, appear on the property.

After her health started failing, she moved back to Lewiston and went back to being a homemaker at their Lewiston home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Caroline Greenfield; brothers, Lorin Greenfield and Bill Greenfield; two sisters, Cecilia McConnell and Caroline Pence; and one grandson, Cris.

Cremation has taken place.
