Joseph Anthony Lawton Sr. October 2, 1931 - March 8, 2016 San Diego Joseph Anthony Lawton Sr. passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family and friends March 8, 2016. He was born October 2, 1931, in St. Louis, Missouri to Dr. Thomas Patrick and Grace Dougherty Lawton. He graduated from St. Louis University High School in 1949 and from St. Louis University in 1953. On July 10, 1954 he married the love of his life, Mary Latta Clarkson. Joe was Vice President Western Region at the Eastman Kodak Company for many years before retiring to San Diego, California. He was an avid sports fan, enjoyed reading, and spending time with his family and friends. Survivors include his five children; a sister and a brother; thirteen grandchildren and their spouses; and many nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by "his bride", Mary Latta Clarkson Lawton. We will celebrate the patriarch of our family with honor and great pride at a memorial mass and interment on Friday, May 27, 2016 at 1:30 PM at the Old Mission San Luis Rey de Francia, 4050 Mission Avenue, Oceanside, CA 92057. MISS MARY LATTA CLARKSON. daughter of Mrs. George W. Clarkson Jr., and the late Mr. Clarkson, has set Saturday, July 10, as the date for her marriage to Sgt Joseph Anthony Lawton, son of Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Patrick Lawton of the Grey-stone apartments, 410 North Kewstead avenue. The ceremony, at 11 o'clock In the morning, will take place at St. Louis King of France Church (Old Cathedral) with Bishop Mark K. Carroll of Wichita, Kan., a close friend of the Lawton family, officiating. Afterward Mrs. Clarkson will give a breakfast in the Tower room of the Congress Hotel. George W. Clarkson III will give his sister in marriage. She will be attended by Miss Mary Frances Heil, maid of honor, and by Miss Heil's cousin, Miss Carole Hell Stephens, and Miss Jeanne Harift Ruenzl, bridesmaids. Mr. Lawton, stationed with the Army at Fort Leonard Wood, will have his brother, Capt John T Lawton, on duty with the Army in Japan, as best man. Ushers will be another brother, Thomas P. Lawton Jr., Edward A. Higgins, Eugene Roy Bischoff, James B. Cahill, Ralph Wegener and William B. Guyol, brother-in-law of the prospective bridegroom. The first of several parties planned for Miss Clarkson and her fiance was a barbecue May 1 given by his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Lawton Jr., and his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Guyol at the Guyol home, 1118 Midiron avenue, University City.(ref: St. Louis Post-Dispatch )
