Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Eli and Ruby Canerday Abernathy, and wife and mother of his children, Faye Dean Abernathy.
Survivors include wife, Donna Quillen Abernathy, daughters, Lesa (Larry) Pettus, and Jill (Clint) Brown; step-daughters, Laura (Jon) Flowers, Morgan (Jake) Beggs, and step-son Michael Quillen. Also, grandchildren, Tyler and Presley Pettus, and Dusty (Ashley) and Kenzie Brown; step-grandchildren, Logan and Carly Flowers, and Trevor and Zachary Quillen; brothers, Danny (Paulette) Abernathy, Ricky Abernathy, and Roger (Donna) Abernathy, and sister, Joan (Johnny) Dean.
Wayne was a talented, self-taught musician and could play almost any instrument he put his hands on. He didn’t read music, but taught many students to play by ear. The things he enjoyed most were spending time with his family and friends and playing music. He had the biggest heart and was loved by all who knew him. He was a member of Stutts Road Church of Christ.
Pallbearers will be Tyler Pettus, Dusty Brown, Daniel Quillen, Kendell Dean, Jon Flowers, and Michael Quillen. Honorary pallbearers will be Charlie Shelton, Paul Abernathy, Wayne Hines, Jerry Smith, and Tony Dean.
