Clinton was born in Pennsylvania. His parents were Joseph Clinton Ater b 1853 Ohio, d 15 Oct 1903 Muncie, Indiana; mother: Julia Ann Wilson Dodson b 1856, d Clarksburg, Deerfield, Ross, Ohio. After Julia's death, the family moved to Muncie, Indiana. There Clinton met and married Pearl Newcomer and worked as an oil driller. He and Pearl divorced and Clinton married Mary Brunner. Both Clinton and Mary's father worked at the same company in Muncie, Indiana. The couple move to El Dorado, Butler, KS where Clinton was an oil driller manager. Sometime about 1923, (according to wife Mary) Clinton had an accident at work and suffered terrably before he succummed to his wounds. Where Clinton is buried is unknown.
