Howard James Colonel USAF (Retired) ALEXANDER (12/30/1936 - 07/13/2016)

Howard James Alexander passed away peacefully on July 13, 2016 surrounded by family. He was born on December 30, 1936 in Spearfish, South Dakota and grew up in Hettinger, North Dakota where he met and married his High School sweetheart.
Howard is survived by his wife of 57 years Rea; brothers Lyle and Danny; daughters Darcy (Dan) and Peggy (Cory); son Mark (Jenne) and granddaughters Brittany (Alex), Alisha and Natalie.
He is a graduate of the University of North Dakota and Gonzaga University. He proudly served in the United States Air Force for 24 years. He was last stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base where he retired with the rank of Colonel in 1984. After retirement Howard continued his public service, serving as Chief of Disaster Preparedness at Fairchild.
Howard's love for flying began at a young age and continued throughout his life. If it could fly, he probably flew it. He was active in a number of aviation organizations including The Experimental Aircraft Association, Quiet Birdmen, The Order of Daedalians, Ruby Mountain Hot Air Inc. and the Honor Point Military & Aerospace Museum.
When not flying or spending time with his loving family, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Honor Point Military & Aerospace Museum or the charity of your choice .
Vigil services will be Tuesday, July 19, 2017 at 7pm, with visitation beginning at 5pm, at Assumption Parish, 3624 W. Indian Trail Road, Spokane. Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at 10am and will be celebrated at Assumption Parish. Interment with full military honors will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 7200 N. Wall St., Spokane. Arrangements have been entrusted to:
