Athanasios Papadopulos "Papou" Valparaiso, IN Age 91, of Valparasio, IN passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2008.

He was born in Mavrokampos, Kastoria, Greece, 4th of 10 siblings to parents, Petros and Triantafilia Papadopoulos, on August 28, 1917.

A World War II veteran with the Greek Army, he came to the United States in 1955. He was employed by EJ&E Railroad until 1983 when he retired.

Athanasios is survived by his loving wife, Alexandra; son, Louis; daughter-in-law, Julia; two very special grandchildren, Athanasios Tommy Papadopoulos and Alexandra (Jeffery) Mills; 2 great - grandchildren, Juliette and Genevieve Mills, all of Valparaiso, IN; 2 brothers, George (Agape) and Napoleon (Vasiliki) Papadopoulos of New York; sister, Zoitsa (late Chris) Tsatsanis of Toronto, Canada; and many more nieces, nephews and relatives living in the United States, Canada, Greece and Australia.

Athanasios was a member of Ss. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Merrillville and multiple former presidencies of the "Aristotelis" Greek Macedonian Society. He was also a member of the Greek-American Brotherhood.

Athanasios will be missed greatly by many.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 30, 2008 at 10:00 a.m directly at Ss. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 8000 Madison Street, Merrillville, with Fr. Theodore Poteres officiating.

Burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, October 29th from 2-8 p.m. at Geisen Funeral Home, 7905 Broadway in Merrillville.

A Trisagion Prayer Service will be held on Wednesday evening at 5:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made in Athanasios' memory to Ss. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 8000 Madison St., Merrillville, IN 46410.
