Claude Harry Griffis 62 lifelong resident of Brunswick passed away Monday evening, July 11, 2016 at Southeast Georgia Health System after a lengthy illness.

Harry was born July 26, 1953 in Douglas Georgia to the late Clemon H. Griffis and Kathleen Floyd Griffis. He attended Glynn County Elementary schools and was a 1971 graduate of Brunswick High School. He attended South Georgia State College 1972-73 in Douglas while managing the family business Griffis Steel Company. He was President of the company at the time of his passing.

A fourth generation member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Harry served in many church callings through the years. He especially enjoyed working with the youth and Boy Scouts. Mr. Griffis was ordained as Bishop of the Brunswick First Ward Congregation. He loved the members he served and they loved him. At the time of his passing he served as a teacher in the children's Primary organization of the church.

Harry and Griffis Steel sponsored and coached in Glynn County Little League Baseball. Through the years he bought thousands of Girl Scout cookies most of which he gave away because he was a diabetic since youth.

He loved hunting and fishing with his sons and close friends. He was president and sponsored various hunting clubs through the years.

Harry married Gigi Crenshaw in 1977 and has spent the past 40 years together as sweethearts. Harry was the recipient of a kidney transplant 12 years ago, his wife Gigi being the donor. Though hampered by other illness and surgeries, he seldom missed a day of work.

Quiet and unassuming, Harry was generous in aiding his fellows throughout his life time.

Preceded in death by his father Clemon H. Griffis, Mr. Griffis is survived by his mother Kathleen of Brunswick and Birmingham AL, His wife Gigi Crenshaw Griffis, two sons, C. Harrison and wife, Christon Smith Griffis, Travis W. and wife, Jordan Bain Griffis, Four grandchildren Shelby, Reagan, Brigham and C. Hudson Griffis all of Brunswick, Two sisters Sue Jacobs and husband, Phillip of Laverkin, UT, and Angela Ripley and husband Tony of Birmingham, AL, Two brothers Brad and wife, Shelly Griffis of Irmo S.C. and Roger and wife, Qiulan Zhao Griffis of Mumbai, India, 18 nieces and nephews and many close cousins; Aunts and uncles Juanita Kirkland Beach and Sam and Patsy Floyd all of Brunswick, Betsy Griffis Farnsworth and husband Val of Salt Lake City, UT, and Legrand and wife Cheryl Griffis of TX. He is esteemed and loved by his Crenshaw and Padgett-in-laws, Harry was truly loved by all.

Visitation will be at Chapman Funeral Chapel Wednesday July 13th from 5:30-7:30pm and services will be Thursday at 10am in the Brunswick chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Interment and grave dedication will be at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery, 110 Stu Daniel Drive, Brunswick.

The family wishes to thank all the doctors and medical staff at Southeast Georgia health System, especially Drs. Lee-Lewis, Bowen, Mosher and Legere and Beth Respess, PA, for their support and care over the years.

The family also would like to recognize beloved and special family friend Cheryl Anderson, who worked as secretary for Griffis Steel Company for the last 33 years. In lieu of flowers, please do not vote for Hillary.
