Albert Sidney Griffin, Sr., 89, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2016 at Valley View Senior Life Center. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, July 25, 2016, at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home 203 N. Washington Street. A visitation will be held 9 a.m. until service time on Monday. A graveside service with full military honors will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, at the Fort Riley Cemetery.

Albert was born February 24, 1927, in Hugo, OK. the son of Zerah Marcellus Griffin and Artie B. Henderson.

Albert served in the United States Army. He was a WW II, Korean War and Vietnam Veteran. After retiring from the Army, he owned and operated an auto business in Junction City. He was a member of Second Missionary Baptist Church, the American Legion, the Buffalo Soldiers and a Charter member of the NAACP. Albert was raised by his father and step-mother Pearl Alford. He attended schools in Nowata, OK. Albert was a very generous and giving person.

He was married to Mary (Legohn) Griffin for 52 years she preceded him in death.

Survivors include three sons, Ahmad Abdulrahman and his wife Rena of Fresno, TX, Albert S. Griffin, Jr. of Junction City, KS and Keith M. Griffin and his wife Mandy of Manhattan, KS; three daughters, Yolanda West of Houston, TX, Grenier McClain and her husband Monroe of Fresno, TX and Greer Hargrave and her husband William of Missouri City, TX. He is also survived by one sister, Earlene Griffin Hall of Kansas City, KS. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Earsel Powel.
