Mrs. Melvin (Joyce) Pitts, 68, of RR# 1, Cleghorn, died Sunday in Floyd Valley Hospital, Le Mars, of an apparent heart attack She had been a resident of Cherokee County her entire life.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at the Maryhill Visitation Church, Cherokee. Rev. Gene Sitzmann and Rev. Dale George will officiate. Burial will be in the Visitation Church cemetery. A prayer service will be held at 7:15 p.m. today and a rosary at 8:00 p.m. at the Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee.
She was born June 2,1921, in Marcus to Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kenney. She attended school in Marcus, graduating from Holy Name High School in 1940. On June 27, 1941 she married Howard Walters, whom preceded her in death. On August 23, 1947 she married Henry C. De Young, whom also preceded her in death in 1952. On March 2,1967 she married Melvin Pitts, at the Maryhill Visitation Church. She was a member of the Cherokee County Historical Society, Maryhill Visitation Church, and the Maryhill Quilt Committee.
She is survived by her husband, Melvin; 4 sons, Dick Walters of Rockwell City, Iowa; Mike Walters, of Cherokee; Dennis De Young of Quimby; and Steve Pitts, of Cleghorn; 3 daughters, Mrs. Rick (Bonnie) Mongan, of Cherokee; Mrs. Duane (Marlene) Smith, of Marcus; Mrs. Larry (Mary) Pigott, of Meriden; 27 grandchildren and 3 greatgrandchildren; 2 brothers, Richard and Robert Kenney, of Corpus Chnsti, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 sister, and 3 grandchildren.
