Edward C. Aderhold, 78, of 69 Brookfield Drive died Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999, at Williamsport Hospital. He and his wife, the former Reanna M. Houseknecht, observed their 53rd wedding anniversary Nov. 4. He was a self-employed carpenter/contractor/developer for the past 20 years. He was a member and past president of the Hughesville Volunteer Fire Department and the Hughesville Rotary Club, where he recently was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a former Boy Scout master for a Montoursville troop. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. Aderhold played guitar for several area country music bands. A Marine Corps veteran of World War II, he served with the First Marine Division, was wounded in Guadal Canal and received the Purple Heart. He was a member of Roland Ritter Post 268, American Legion, Muncy, for more than 50 years and Edward J. Smith Post 3428, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Muncy. He was a manager of a Hughesville Little League Baseball team, the "Greenies." He graduated from Montoursville High School in 1940. Born Oct. 12, 1921, in Williamsport, he was a son of Howell Sylvester and Hennrietta Thornton Aderhold. Surviving, besides his wife, are two sons, Jeff C. and Scott C., both of Hughesville; a daughter, Susan A. Powers of Wellsboro; a brother, Donald Saar in Florida; five sisters, Doris Metzger of Williamsport, Anna Guikema and Maxine Klyn, both of Muskegon, Mich., Mary Ellen Willsey and Dorothy Markham, both of Bloomfield, N.Y.; and six grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Bill Saar, and a sister, Vivian Rochelle. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at McCarty-Thomas', 557 E. Water St., with the Rev. George E. Doran, his pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Graveside military honors will be accorded by combined veterans organizations. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. The family will provide the flowers.
