Word has been received of the death of Dr. Thomas Epps Wilson Jr., "Dr. T-Boy," a leader in the medical profession in Jacison, Miss. He was 72.
Funeral services were conducted Monday in Jackson for Dr. Wilson who died Sunday at his residence in Jackson after a lengthy illness.
A teacher and consultant to members of the medical profesion, Dr. Wilson practiced medicine in Jackson for over 40 years until his recent retirement.
He was active in the promotion and development of the University Medical Center in Jackson, the University of Mississippi Alumni Association and all of Jackson's hospitals.
He was a graduate of Mississippi College, the University of Mississippi and the medical school of the University of Virginia where he graduated with honors.
As a young doctor he served as an assistant to the famous heart specialist Dr. Paul Dudley White of Boston.
During World War II, Dr. Wilson entered naval service as a lieutenant commander in the Medical Corps of the U.S. Naval Reserve. He specialized in internal medicine and cardiology and was a retired captain in the naval reserve.
He served as president of the Central Medical Society, the Mississippi Heart Association and was also president of the Mississippi Baptist Hospital staff.
His survivors are his widow, Mrs. Gwendolyn Barksdale Wilson; one son, Dr. Thomas E. Wilson III; a daughter, Mrs. William F. Lynch Jr., and eight grandchildren, all of Jackson; three brothers, Lewis Wilson of Jackson; W.D. Wilson of Lexington, Miss.; and Dr. Jack Wilson of Wilmington, N.C.
Pallbearers were Dr. James C. Hays; Dr. William F. Lynch Jr., William F. Lynch III, Richard B. Wilson Jr., all of Jackson; miller P. Holmes and Miller P. Holmes Jr., both of Yazoo, Miss.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Central Medical Society.
