Ova Mae was born April 4, 1906 near old Johnstonville, Indian Territory, the eldest of 13 surviving children to Q.M. and Betty Pitts Griffin, passed into the loving arms of Jesus, Monday, Nov. 20, 2006.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Wayne N. Updegraff, her beloved son, Dean J. Updegraff, her mother & father, 4 brothers, Luther, Buford, Fred & Jay Griffin and 4 sisters, Gawanda Griffin, Elwanda Stone, Jean Rich, Emily Kreager; her dear grandson, Kenneth D. Updegraff, and her daughter-in-law, Alma Jo Updegraff.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kaye J. & Jimmie Himes; her 3 grandsons: Dwight Updegraff of Choctaw, Dennis Himes of Dallas, TX, and Dr. T. Mark Himes of Scotts Bluff, NE; 6 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandsons; and 1 sister, Betty Wassermann of San Antonio, TX.

'Uppie' touched many lives with her understanding, loving ear, her beautiful oil paintings, homemade quilts, fancy doll clothes, ceramics, homemade vegetable soup and hot cherry pies. She owned and taught in her ceramic studio for many years. She was President of the Okla. State Ceramic Club and Homemakers Club NE. She was a homemaker all her life with only a brief period of working in public during WWII. At the time of her death, she was a member of the Baptist Services at South Park Health Facility, where she lived. She will be remembered by her family as their nurturing patriarch.

A remarkable woman of steadfast love, abiding faith, and indomitable character, she made her place in the hearts of all and we will miss her. Nevertheless, we are happy for her, that she has been called home to see face to face He whose presence she awaited.

Services to celebrate her life will be held 2:00 PM Friday, Nov. 24, 2006 at the South Colonial Chapel with interment to follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens.
