Anna Katherine Taylor Powell, 97, departed this life on Tuesday evening, July 5th, 2016 at the Terrace Nursing home in Berea, KY. She was born January 11th, 1918 in Madison County, a daughter of the late Tom and Ivy Gentry Taylor. She was the widow of William Boyd Powell who passed away in 1945. She was a member of the 1st Christian Church and the Madison County Retired Teachers Association. She retired as an elementary school teacher at Kingston School with the Madison County School system. She began her teaching career in a one room school. After retiring she traveled and visited 48 states. Upon residing at McCready Manor, her favorite pastime was a game of Rook cards, and she played to win. She was a graduate of Union City High School, and Eastern Kentucky University. She was preceded in death by one sister, Beulah McKinney; four brothers Turner, William Owen, James B. and W.T. Taylor; a son-in-law Joel Taylor.
Survivors include two daughters Wilma Taylor, of Richmond, Velma (Bill) Partin of Lexington; four grandchildren Kathy (Roger) Rice, of Richmond, William (Rhonda) Partin, Lisa Partin, Angela (Jess) Darris, all of Lexington; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter.
Graveside services will be held Friday, July 8th, 2016, 11:00 am at the Richmond Cemetery, with Rev. Mark Condrey officiating. Heritage Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements.
