J Max Scott, 77, of Roanoke, died on Monday, November 20, 2006 at home. He was the son of the late Ralph E. and Selma B. Scott of Johnson City, Tenn. Mr. Scott was a former employee of Roanoke Concrete Pipe Company and owner and operator of Scott's Machine Company in Roanoke, Va. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army and a faithful member of Villa Heights Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Emmazetta Webb Scott; and brother, Martin Francis Scott of Johnson City, Tenn. His surviving family includes his wife of 20 years, Cora Houchin Scott; son, Vernon F. Houchin and wife, Judy; daughter, Frances H. Seay and husband, Bobby; brother, Ralph Eugene Scott and wife, Margaret, of Johnson City, Tenn.; sisters, Elaine S. Cantrell of Chuckey, Tenn. and Jeanette S. Moore of Johnson City, Tenn.; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Friday, November 24, 2006 beginning at 12 noon in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem where a funeral service will then begin at 2 p.m. The Rev. Brian Clingenpeel, the Rev. John Fox, and the Rev. Maurice Timberlake will officiate. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Carilion Hospice at 1917 Franklin Road – Suite B in Roanoke, Va. 24014. Online condolences may be made at www.johnmoakey.com.
