On the 1870 Vicksburg, Warren Co., Mississippi census, I found A M Paxton, 47; other Paxtons: May L, 30; Wm, 21; Robt, 15; Charles, 13; McNut, 11; Mary, 9; Anna, 6 and ALEX, 3. Parents were born in Virginia and all the kids in Mississippi.

1899: "Mr. Alexander M. Paxton, of Vicksburrg, Miss., who graduated from the Virginia Military Institute In the class of 1877. has presented the library of the institute with about 400 volumes, which are a part of the library of his father, Maj. A. M. Paxton, of Vicksburg." Per the Virginian-Pilot, Vol 2, #129, dated 2 Mar 1899 (see photo).

On the 1910 Vicksburg Ward 4, Warren Co., Mississippi census, I found ALEXANDER M Paxton, 52; brother Charles B Paxton, 64 and sister Mary P Green, 59, all Mississippi born.

FUNERAL NOTICE DIED April 1st, 1921, ALEXANDER M'NUTT PAXTON, aged 64 years. The friends and acquaintances of the family are respectfully invited to attend the funeral services which will be held at Christ Church on Monday afternoon, April 4th, at 4 P. M., Rev. Charles E. Woodson, to officiate. Vicksburg, Miss., April 2, 1921. Published in the Vicksburg Evening Post, dated 2 Apr 1921, p 8 (see photo).

"Vicksburg.-At a special meeting of the board of mayor and alderman, S. S. Patterson was elected city clerk to succeed the late Alex M. Patterson...." Published in the Okolona Messenger (MS) dated 14 Apr 1921.

The City obtained permission to publish these records to the internet from the Salassi heirs who believe it is in accordance with the purpose the Salassis' set out to accomplish in recording tombstone information of the City's Cedar Hill Cemetery. The City, along with the heirs to Walter and Annie Salassi, do not assume any responsibility for any inaccuracies in the data.
