Andy J. Thompson, prominent candidate for postmaster at Winfield, died last night.

Winfield Daily Courier (Winfield, Kansas) Thursday, December 14, 1893
Andy Thompson at Rest
Last evening as the black robes of night gathered over the city like a shroud, the Angel of Death descended and bore away the soul of A. J. Thompson to that bourne whence no traveler returns.
Andrew Jackson Thompson was born in Butler county, near Oxford, Ohio, July 12, 1844, and moved to Winfield in April, 1870, where he has been one of the most prominent business men ever since. Shortly after coming to the city he, in connection with W.H. Harris and A.J. Clark, opened up a land and real estate office under the firm name of Harris, Clark & Thompson and done a prosperous business. In 1884 Mr. Thompson withdrew from the firm and gave his entire attention to the laying out and disposing of the "Thompson addition to the city of Winfield," one of the most beautiful tracts that has ever been added to the city. In 1886 he began and erected the fine three story stone block situated on the corner of Ninth avenue and Millington street.
He has ever been one of the foremost business men of the city and has left monuments to his posterity that will live long after his head stone has crumbled to dust.
He was married to Miss Phoebe Davis of Oxford, and three children all bright boys, are the fruits of their long and happy married life.
As a business man, a politician and a friend of humanity, he will live long in the hearts of his fellow countrymen. He was loved and respected by all who knew him.
His illness has been of short duration, having lasted only two weeks and being a complication of the la grippe and congestion of the lungs.
The Courier joins with the citizens in offering condolence for the bereaved family and in mourning for the dead.
The funeral will take place from the residence of the deceased on east Ninth avenue at 3 o'clock to-morrow afternoon. The remains will be interred in Union cemetery.
