Irene Barna passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at her home in the Avenel section of Woodbridge Township. She was 90 years old.
Born in Tiverton, RI, she has resided in Avenel since 1953.
Mrs. Barna graduated from Hoffman High School in South Amboy and was employed as a secretary with the Woodbridge Township Board of Education at School 23 in Avenel for 25 years before retiring in 1990 and had worked for Merck and Company in Rahway many years ago.
She was predeceased by her husband, James Albert Barna, in 2007; and thre sisters, Dorothy Poetsch, Ruth Dowling and Grace Nelson.
Surviving are her daughters, Janice Barna of Avenel and Joyce Volk of Lake City, FL; two grandchildren, Jessica and Ryan; and a great granddaughter, Lilly Rose.
Funeral services will be on Monday, August 1, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Costello-Koyen Funeral Home (www.costello-koyen.com), 399 Avenel Street, Avenel. Entombment will follow at Clover Leaf Memorial Park, Woodbridge. Visitation will be on Sunday from 1:00 until 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
