Grace W. Weir Aldred, 106, 1023 W. Main St., Vevay, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at the Swiss Villa Living Center.

She was born Dec. 29, 1895, in New Market, the daughter of Robert and Marjorie Elizabeth Keller Weir. She was a former employee of the Clifty Falls State Park Hotel as a cook. After her marriage to Wilbur J. Aldred they settled in Switzerland County, farming there until his death Nov. 22, 1959. She then moved to Vevay, living most of the next 37 years on West Market Street. In June of 1996 at age 100 she moved to Cross Plains to be with her niece, Rose Marie Stegemiller. Later, after her niece's death, she moved to the Swiss Villa Living Center in Vevay.

She was the oldest living member of the Switzerland Baptist Church; a member of the Vevay Home Ec Club since 1924; of the Julia L. Dumont Literary Club; a member of the Rising Sun Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 326, since 1933; the oldest member of Hope Rebekah Lodge No. 851; a 17-year member of the Switzerland County 4-H Fair Board; and a member of the Switzerland County Historical Society.

She was honored by the "Today Show" on her various birthdays from 100 on; by Channel 12 in Cincinnati on her 105th birthday; and by the Indiana House of Representatives on her 106th birthday.

Surviving are several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay, with burial in the Vevay Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Switzerland Baptist Church. Cards are available at the funeral home.
