LYNN - Robert E. "Bob" Ball, of Lynn, formerly of Swampscott, died Friday, April 18, 2014, at Salem Hospital, after being stricken suddenly. He was the wife of Phyllis "Jackie" (Gagnon) Ball, and the son of the late Abiah and Janet (Harrison) Ball.

Born in Lynn, he was raised in Swampscott, where he graduated from Swampscott High School, class of 1946. He lived in Swampscott for many years before moving into the home he built for he and his wife, Jackie, in Lynn. Bob was a United States Army veteran of World War II. In his earlier years he owned a trucking company, and later became a firefighter for the town of Swampscott until his retirement. He enjoyed boating, and tinkering with cars and things around the house.

Besides his loving wife, Jackie, of 58 years, Bob is survived by his niece, Susan Earnshaw, and her husband Eric of Dracut. He was the brother of the late Dorothy Adam and Irene Mackie, and the uncle of the late Alex Mackie.

Service information: A funeral service will be held in the SOLIMINE FUNERAL HOME, 67 Ocean St. (Route 1A), Lynn, on Thursday at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Swampscott Cemetery. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 1 Franklin St., Lynn, MA 01902.
