Arlene S. Ake

Arlene S. Ake, 88, Williamsburg, passed away unexpectedly Thursday evening at her residence.
She was born in Williamsburg, daughter of the late Harry K. and Susie G. (Snare) Sollenberger.
On October 28, 1951 she married Harry R. Ake in Williamsburg. He preceded her in death on May 8, 2010.
Surviving are a daughter, Denise E. Hainsey (Raymond) of Hollidaysburg; a son, Allan R. of Williamsburg; a grandson Jordan, who referred to Arlene as “Dam”; and a special niece, Nancy Saylor.
She was preceded in death by 3 sisters: Doris Marvich, Florence Wilson and Helen Honyak; 2 brothers: Glenn and Ernest; and 2 nieces: Gay Wilson and Beth Honyak.
Arlene was a 1945 graduate of Williamsburg High School and a graduate of the Altoona School of Commerce. She was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church, Williamsburg.
Over her lifetime she worked for various businesses including the PA Highway Dept., Hollidaysburg, West Virginia Pulp & Paper, Crownover’s IGA, Leidy’s Greenhouse and Kenny Rhodes Gun Shop all in Williamsburg.
Arlene loved her daily Altoona Mirror crossword puzzle, reading books from the library, listening to Steve Clark and Jay Randle in the morning and she also enjoyed watching Young & the Restless and murder mysteries. Arlene also knitted 1029 squares which were used to make 21 blankets that she donated to Michaels which were given to the needy.
Friends will be received from 10 am until 12 noon, Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Church, Williamsburg. A funeral service will follow at 12 noon, Tuesday, at the church with Pastor Tiffany E. Marvich officiating. Interment will be held at Williamsburg Lutheran Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorial contributions be given to Zion Lutheran Church, 217 Plum St., Williamsburg, PA 16693.
