Inducted into the U.S. Army August 22, 1917, at Jefferson Barracks MO. Private Burke served in the 127th Aero Squadron from his induction date to October 12, 1917. Transferred to the 100th Aero Squadron October 13, 1917, serving with that unit until his honorable discharge from the Army in June 1919. He left the service 10% disabled.

Pvt. Burke of the 100th Aero Squadron, 10th Squad, departed the U.S. on the troopship "SS Tuscania" on 24 January 1918. He was aboard the troopship "SS Tuscania" when it was torpedoed and sunk off the coast of Scotland 5 February 1918. After being rescued, he made his way to England, then to France. He returned to the U.S. on May 31, 1919 aboard the "Louisville" and was discharged 16 June 1919. Army serial number 249,864.

Jaime lived his entire life on the farm at Clear Creek where he was born, for many years with his brother Emmett.
