John McAdoo “Jack” Evans, 86, of Rome City passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 3, 2016, with his wife, Martha (Schwab) by his side in Parkview Noble Hospital, Kendallville.

He was born November 30, 1929, in Toledo, Ohio, to Harry Price and Martha Ann (McAdoo) Evans.

Toledo was his home until he graduated from the University of Toledo in 1951 with a degree in education. Jack married his high school sweetheart, Patricia McKibben, in Valentine, Indiana, in 1952. They started their life in Romulus, Michigan, where they both taught elementary school. Uncle Sam changed their lives when he was drafted and reported to duty in December, 1952. After his years of service they moved several times as Jack followed a corporate career path in human resources. That man could talk to anybody and everybody. After he retired with a successful career with the Bendix Corporation, he created his own personnel consulting business. (JM Evans and Associates) He transferred his business to Rome City after marrying Martha in 2006. They resided in the house they built together, overlooking the water on Sylvan Lake. Each day started with a cup of coffee and a chocolate donut watching the sun rise.

Every football Saturday, for over 45 years, you would find him on the sidelines of the “Big House” cheering on the Michigan Wolverines football team. He was an avid sports fan following any and all baseball teams, be it youth, adult or professional.

His greatest love was his family and he looked forward to times spent with kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. The big event of each year was candy weekend. Fun and laughter was held by all as 200 lbs. of chocolate was melted, stirred, coated and transformed into candy to be handed out as gifts.

Jack was a member of the Kendallville Rotary Club and attended Trinity Church United Methodist in Kendallville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Martha (McAdoo) Evans and his wife Patricia (McKibben) Evans.

He is survived by his wife Martha (Schwab) Evans, nine children; Barbara (Sheldon Kaye) Swartzlander of Scarborough, Maine, Pamela (Chuck) Patterson of Columbus, Ohio, James (Tawna) Swartzlander of Kendallville, Janet (David) McElhanon of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Jacklyn Little of Avon Lake, Ohio, Sheryl Stoltz of Dayton, Ohio, John Michael (Linda) Evans of Grand Rapids, Ohio, Carey (Kim) McKibben of LaGrange, and James (Jonathan Jacobson) McKibben of Litchfield, Connecticut; 19 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday, August 8, 2016, at 10 a.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, 222 South State Street, Kendallville. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, LaGrange.

Calling is Sunday, August 7, 2016, from 2 to 5 p.m. in the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are to Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana or to the Kendallville Rotary Club.
