Marian Marilyn Itzen, 97, of South Haven, passed away Monday, June 27, 2016 at her son’s home under the loving care of her daughter-in-law Mischa. She was born September 23, 1918 to Abram and Nina Mae (Lynch) Grimes in Bangor. Marilyn served during World War II as an RN in the United States Army. Marilyn continued in health care at the Kalamazoo State Hospital and trained at the University of Michigan. She married Dr. John Itzen on June 21, 1954 in Tucson, Arizona. She was a member of the Church of Epiphany Episcopal Church. Marilyn loved to paint and take care of her canaries.
She is preceded in death by her husband – Dr. John Itzen who passed in 1985, and siblings – Cy and Harold Grimes, Madalynn Gall, Coralyn Koschnitzke, and Virginia Debusshere.
Marilyn is survived by her children – Daniel (Mischa) Itzen of South Haven and Eugene Itzen of Astoria, Oregon, granddaughters – Tracey Itzen, Loris Cook, and Linda Wilson. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Private family services will be scheduled. Marilyn will be laid to rest at Monks Cemetery in Geneva Township. Contributions may be made in Marilyn’s memory to the Church of the Epiphany Episcopal Church, 410 Erie Street, South Haven, Michigan 49090.
