DEL GUERCIO Thaddeus J. Ted Del Guercio Sr. Former professional baseball player, 78 Thaddeus J. Ted Del Guercio Sr., of Newark died on Nov. 23, 2006, at his home. The funeral service will be Monday at 9:30 a.m. at the S.W. Brown and Son Funeral Home, 267 Centre St., Nutley, followed by the interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington. Friends will be received at the funeral home Sunday from 2-6 p.m. (www.swbrownandson.com) Mr. Del Guercio lived most of his life in Newark. He was a retired private investigator. A graduate of Central High School, Mr. Del Guercio was signed by the Boston Red Sox and received a signing bonus of $19,000 and a college education at Seton Hall University, where he earned a degree in history. He played Triple A ball for six years and lost a batting title to Hank Aaron. He was part of the biggest trade in baseball history in 1956, between the New York Yankees, the Boston Red Sox and the Baltimore Orioles. Mr. Del Guercio was inducted as a member of the Newark Athletic Hall of Fame. He is survived by his sons, Richard R. and Thaddeus J. Del Guercio Jr.; his grandchildren, Lauren Bellamy, Kristen, David, Thaddeus J. III Esq., Robert A. and Anthony G. Del Guercio Esq., and his great-grandchildren, Blake Bellamy and Christopher Del Guercio.
