During the American Civil War he enlisted as a Private in the "Lexington Light Dragoons" on December 18th, 1861, at Lexington Courthouse, and was mustered into service as a Private in Company C of the 14th South Carolina Volunteer Cavalry Battalion at Columbia. He served with the company along the South Carolina Coast, taking part in the battle of Pocotaglio on October 22nd, 1862. In January of 1863 the unit was consolidated with others and designated as Company F of the 5th South Carolina Volunteer Cavalry Regiment. With this unit he continued his service along the South Carolina Coast, until January 18th, 1864, when he was discharged per orders, and returned to Lexington.
Mr. Wyse died on December 2nd, 1891, and was buried at the Wyse-Harman Family Cemetery near Lexington, Lexington County, South Carolina.
After the construction of Lake Murray a memorial marker was erected at Saint Michael's Lutheran Church Cemetery near Irmo, Lexington County, South Carolina.
