Cpl. Bill Bingaman, 21-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Bingaman of route 3, Lebanon, enlisted in the Marines on July 24, 1941, and received his basic training at San Diego. Since then he has been in battles at Pearl Harbor, the Solomon Islands, Coral Sea, Midway, Australia, and numerous other major engagements for which he is now wearing the six stars signifying the engagements. He was in one more important battle but as yet has not been given a star for it. Young Bingaman was also with the Lexington as well as the Yorktown when they were sunk. He is an expert at machine gun, bayonet and pistol and has in his possession medals for his achievements. Now on furlough visiting in Springfield with his uncle, E. F. James, 813 South avenue, he is a graduate of the Lebanon High school and before his enlistment, was working for a greenhouse here. His 18-year-old brother, Jack, is now in training with the U.S. Navy in San Diego, having enlisted four months ago.
