Sister Mary Lydia Leonella Lynch was born November 21, 1919 in West Virginia. Her father was Cleveland Earle Lynch (1884-1966). Her mother was Lelah Teressa Moore (1893-1973). She had two sisters Tacy Garnet Lynch (1920-1975) and Edith Mae Lynch (1922-2013).

Sister Leonella grew up in Banks, Upshur, West Virginia with her two sisters. Her father was a retail merchant. The family also worked as dryers, spoolers, letting at rayon textile factory.

Sister Leonella graduated in 1935 from Parkersburg High School in Parkersburg, West Viginia. In her yearbook she stated her favorite things were orchestra, glee club and social dancing.

Sister Leonella married Charles Edward Bowdon (1921-1983) a farmer from Ohio August 31, 1947 in Wood, West Virginia.

Sister Leonella was the Principal of Beverly Hills Catholic School which was later renamed Good Shepherd Catholic School. Sister Leonella lived at the convent on Roxbury in Beverly Hills. Sister Leonella was also called Maude.

Sister Leonella was the head of the Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Church in Ojai, California. She passed away at the age of 95.
